Weighted drill pipes (UBT) are designed to create an axial load on the bit. UBT with spiral grooves have become the most widespread due to their operational characteristics. The presence of spiral grooves reduces the contact area of the borehole wall and the pipe, thereby reducing the possibility of "grabbing" pipes, as well as increasing the torque due to the utilization of the energy of the upward flow of drilling mud. Pipes with spiral grooves can be simultaneously performed with grooves for the elevator and wedge gripper.

• A – smooth without ducts;
• L – with a groove under the elevator;
• B – with grooves for the elevator and wedge grip;
• C – smooth with spiral grooves;
• LS – with a groove under the elevator, with spiral grooves;
• BS – with grooves for the elevator and wedge grip, with spiral grooves;
• AT – smooth with carbide belts;
• LT – with a groove under the elevator, with carbide belts;
• BT – with grooves for the elevator and wedge grip, with carbide belts;
• ST – smooth with spiral grooves, with carbide belts;
• LST – with a groove under the elevator, with spiral grooves, with carbide belts;
